Grammy 2012 Red Carpet Fashions: Best and Worst

When it comes to award shows, I’m always most excited for The Grammys – mainly for the fun and edgy fashions. This year definitely had its hits and misses, but seemed a bit tamer than years past. Here are my picks for best and worst dressed.

The Good

Paris Hilton – keeping it classy in a lovely dress by Basil Soda
Kelly Osbourne – after being on the “miss” list for awhile, scores a hit in a shimmery Tony Ward grecian-style dress (still hate the hair though)
Carrie Underwood – looked stunning in a backless gown with embroidered sequins by Gomez-Garcia (I would have chosen a different purse – maybe silver or a pop of color)
Taylor Swift – sparkled in a embroidered silk Zuhair Murad gown with a peek-a-boo panel on the chest (my personal pick for best-dressed!)

Rihanna – though the hair looks a bit Tina Turner, the Armani stunner accentuates her in all of the right places
Shawna Thompson – love the mix of textures and gold details in this airy black gown
Jessie J – normally one to be over the top, she kept it simple yet eye-catching in a mirrored dress by Julien Macdonald
Alicia Keys – I just love the necklace – a bold statement piece to add interested to an otherwise plain dress (is she wearing the same shoes as Rihanna?)

The Bad

Fergie – I hate to put Fergie in this category, but why would she layer this otherwise gorgeous Jean Paul Gaultier dress over black undergarments? If the dress had a nude lining instead she might have landed on best-dressed
Esperanza Spalding – frumpy, wrinkled, and totally mis-matched – I hated it before I even noticed the red satin part peeking out from the orange ombre, which made me hate it even more
Rebecca Black – first of all, I don’t know why she was invited to the Grammys, but second, this look is amateur and totally wrong – dress is too poufy, pearl necklace is just wrong for this dress, and the shoes look dated
Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi – not surprising she’s on here – bow is a no, dress looks cheap, and those shoes should only be worn by strippers

The Ugly

Sasha Gradiva – not sure if I need to say much here…
Nicki Minaj – um yeah, even Versace makes mistakes sometimes and this was a huge one (literally huge, not that I think she was concerned about it, but this dress makes her look like she gained 100 lbs overnight)
Robyn – the boots are bad enough, but add in the oversized t-shirt and the too-short mullet skirt and the look is just wrong on so many levels
Bonnie Mckee – take away the crazy yellow fringe and the dress still isn’t flattering – together it’s a mess

Why oh why does that woman have a terminator arm with that pink dress?

There was a story on MSNBC about the lady with the weapon. She is making a statement against weapons. Obviously, it backfired!
